Haile King Rubie

Haile King Rube | HSA Alum

Hailesimo (Haile) King-Rubie is a 21-year old artist born and raised in Harlem. A student at the Harlem School of the Arts for 12 years, Haile has progressed in his artistry to present selected pieces from his current movement, The Fuerza Collection under the tutelage of Carl Thelemaque and Renaldo Davidson.

Although one of the youngest artists in the Harlem community, his work has been commended by the late Honorable Percy Sutton, Chairman Inner City Broadcasting, Honorable Congressman Charles Rangel, State Senator Bill Perkins, Council Woman Inez Dickens, The Studio Museum, Ilyasa Shabazz, Daughter of Malcolm X to name a few; along with Collectors of his work from all around the world.

Challenged by Down syndrome, Haile has been painting since age four and has been lauded for his compelling and colorful works of art. His painting not only gives a glimpse into the mind of our innocence, they also give us a glimpse into a mind of an artist.

“His work shows a skill and lack of inhibition that it can take artist years to find. His inner awareness helps to develop his self-motivation and creative independence”, as stated by noted syndicated Journalist, Deardra Shuler. Haile has been thoroughly committed to painting and is an inspiration to young people everywhere. Despite his recent hospitalization for emergency heart surgery, Haile has continued his craft and has over 100 original painting in his collection. He recently gave a generous art donation to the hospital that saved his life. The four works of art are now part of Mount Sinai’s permanent collection. Publications with noted articles are The Amsterdam News, Village Voice, Daily Challenge, New York Beacon, and Caribbean Life to name a few. Television media coverage includes WABC TV News and News 9 formally WB Network.

Selected works from Haile’s latest Fuerza Collection are currently on display in the Harlem School of the Arts Gathering Space through January 31, 2012.
