
SUMMER TEEN ACTING INSTITUTE 2012

An 8-week Summer Teen Acting intensive on site at the Harlem School of the Arts. HSA Summer Teen Acting Institute will consist of a summer long intensive dedicated to exploring Theatre and all aspects associated with mounting a summer season ending one act festival. The ideal number of students in the Institute is 30. Age range is 12-17.
The HSA Summer Teen Acting Institute will consist of a “Summer Camp” structure mixed with the steps required to produce a performance. The 30 students will receive specialized training in the form of acting disciplines including Comedy Mask work, Physical comedy, Improv, Stand up, Viewpoints and VO Commercial comedy. In addition to the disciplines mentioned above the students will take classes in Movement /Voice/Acting for the performer. The summer teen acting institute will include theme related trips & outings and be capped off a community service project. Finally the end result will be a fully staged Performance of a One act comedy festival. The festival will take place in the HSA theatre during the last week of the summer intensive. All student attendees will participate in the production in a Tech or performance related capacity. Tickets will be sold to the public to see this Comedy explosion.
Entrance into the HSA Summer Teen Acting Institute will be a combination of the following: application and audition and/or interview and/or letter of intent and/or Group workshop. These components will also assist the play director in casting the summer production. (All the pieces may or may not be necessary if there are extenuating circumstances, e.g. HSA Theatre Director Recommendation or out of state applicants)
The HSA Summer Teen Acting Institute will provide young performers with experience in all aspects of play production including Costume Design, Set Design, Lighting and Sound design. The HSA Summer Teen Acting Institute will culminate with 8 professional fully staged performances in the HSA Theater.
